THE VIOLENCE - PART ONE

The topic of violence has been addressed by various thinkers, including Krishnamurti, an Indian philosopher known for having had a significant influence on Bruce Lee. In his book “Beyond Violence”, he states that "we have built a highly evolved society in which man has remained essentially greedy, envious, and aggressive”, just as he was thousands of years ago. According to his thinking, a profound change must take place in the human psyche, and this change can only come about through complete freedom from fear.

When it comes to self-defense and self-protection, can we say that a violent physical response is always the best solution in the event of threats or assaults? How should we react if someone decides to attack us despite our having done everything possible to avoid physical confrontation?

An old joke by a well-known expert on the subject stated that some people need a punch in the eye to understand where to go, while others only need a hand pointing in the direction. Therefore, each situation must be assessed on a case-by-case basis, taking into account various aspects, two of which are particularly relevant (in reference to the topic at hand)

1) for many, violence is the only language they can understand

2) violence only works in the short term, as it will inevitably lead to various problems or further violence at a later stage...so what should we do?

The best option is to act proactively through awareness/prevention in order to avoid, deter, or escape. As mentioned several times, avoiding physical confrontation, IF POSSIBLE, remains the main objective. To conclude (I have deliberately omitted preventive attack -a topic already covered), I think we should have a level of self-control such that we only launch a devastating physical response in case of real/imminent danger.

So we need to work hard on our psyche to keep our ego, pride and social pressure (other people's opinions) at bay

- insights drawn from Geoff Thompson’s work "the Art of Fighting without Fighting"

It's a matter of choices: some have chosen to be self-sufficient, others still have chosen to develop a 360° defensive strategy that's quick to learn, quick to put into practice, and functional in any condition -> WHAT HAVE YOU CHOSEN?
